Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of private and public entities have been urged to take charge of the communication function in their businesses for the success of their companies and organizations.

While addressing top executives of leading companies at the Kampala Serena Hotel last week, Robyn de Villiers, Founder and CEO of Burson-Marsteller Africa, a global public relations and communications firm, encouraged them to equip themselves with communication skills that will go a long way in saving the image and reputation of their businesses.

“There is no doubt that the business of communications is currently undergoing its most profound transformation to date. Long-term growth will be driven by the ability to integrate, with an emphasis on content and digital,” she said. “The CEO must therefore be at the center of communication in order to have synchronized information flow to enhance their business growth and sustainability.”

Speaking at the same event, Caleb Owino, the Managing Director fireworks Advertising urged CEOs, heads of marketing and communications to consider strategic marketing options especially in hard economic times to maintain their presence in their respective markets.

“When hard times hit, many CEOs make the impulsive decision to cut marketing and advertising spend more or less completely. This is however, not necessary given the new marketing opportunities provided by online platforms that enable the business reach its target audience at a lesser cost than other marketing avenues.”

He also noted that marketing tactics should not be limited to new media and digital channels but rather employ integrated strategic communication to ensure the business objectives are met.

Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and Afro-fusion multi-instrumentalist, Giovanni Kiyingi, will be one of the acts to look out for during the hugely anticipated 14th Edition of Blankets and Wine happening at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on 25th September, 2016 that will have South African sensation – Mafikizolo as the lead act.

wpid-img-20150215-wa0014

Well known for his multi-instrumentalist skills, Kiyingi plays drums, guitar, harmonica, flute, local Ugandan fiddle (endigidi), conga, adungu (a stringed musical instrument of the Alur people of northwestern Uganda), akogo (finger piano), djembe (rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa), maracas (rumba music shakers) and the calabash.

Kiyingi has performed at major music festivals like the Bayimba International Festival, Pearl Rhythm Festival in Uganda; Santuri Safari Projects Kenyatta University Cultural Exchange, DOADOA, Utam Festival, Sondeka Festival in Kenya and at the Irimba Cultural Festival in Arusha, Tanzania.

Kiyingi has performed alongside veteran artist Harry Lwanga, Kora Award winner Suzan Kerunen, multiple award winner, folk artists Joel Sebunjo, and also with bands like Ssarabi and Afrigo.

wpid-fb_img_1424013903240

With two albums under his belt namely Essanyu Ly’omufilika (Joy of an African) and his latest Akondeere (Trumpets and Hones), he is certainly destined for bigger things.

“Performing on a platform like the 14th Edition of Blankets and Wine is an entirely different audience. So I am putting in more studio time to perform my voice, and polishing up with my instrument selection so that my set can be as invigorating as it will be entertaining. Since I only recently dropped a new album (Akondeere) I will be able to maximize the huge numbers here to raise my flag even higher and gain more recognition,” Kiyingi remarked.

Commenting about the myriad of talent that Blankets and Wine brings to its audiences, Tusker Malt Lager Brand Manager, Alex Tusingwire said that they make it a point to have every edition remarkably different from the other.

“This time round, Mafikizolo as the headlining act are in a league of their own. But regardless, the Ugandan performers too will undoubtedly sizzle. For example Giovanni Kiyingi as a multi-instrumentalist is also a great singer and even better performer. Nkwesunga, one of the songs he performs often is a marvel to listen to. He defines what Tusker Malt Lager and Blankets and Wine stand for.”

Entrance fee is 100,000 UGX at the Lugogo Cricket Oval and gates open at 12:00pm on Sunday 25th September, 2016.

In line with its support for responsible drinking, Tusker Malt Lager will be maintaining a strict ‘over 18 only’ policy for sale of alcohol.

“Hima Cement is an organization that is keen on road safety. Now that we are sponsoring rally, a prestigious sport which both directly and indirectly influences behavior on the road, we thought it wise to have a stand on road safety alongside our sponsorship. The campaign will run until the end of the year,” Ssemakula said.

Adding: “We are proud to support FMU which has a longstanding tradition of carrying out road safety campaigns in partnership with the Uganda Police and Ministry of Works; most recently on Masaka Road; which is one of the areas of concern for the whole country. Hima Cement is glad to partner with FMU in this regard because Health and Safety, on and off the road, is a core value of our organization.”

Hima Cement Limited is the sponsor of rally driver, Ambrose Byona also known as ‘Omunyetto’. Byona in his Mitsubishi Evo 9 and navigator, Derrick Lubambula will be taking part in the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2016. Hima Cement has also in the past sponsored legendary rally ace, Chipper Adams.

“We are happy that Hima Cement has come on board to support not only the rally (Pearl of Africa Rally) but also FMU’s road safety campaign. As you may know, Uganda is ranked in the top ten countries in the world with the highest number of road accidents; most of them attributed to over speeding and reckless driving. We have taken it upon ourselves to sensitize road users on proper driver etiquette; for drivers to check their vehicles before every journey, to have enough rest, plan their journeys and take regular breaks, to wear seatbelts, lookout for other road users and most importantly not to over-speed. This contribution from Hima Cement and their expertise in Road safety will help us in taking the road safety message even further,” Okee stated.

The beauty pageant is aimed at promoting African beauty, unity, talent and heritage in the United Kingdom.

According to Mrz Biggz, an events manager based in London who is among the organizers of the pageant, it gives opportunity to African ladies in United Kingdom to be able to speak about their lives to the different communities in the world, look and feel beautiful inside and out and ultimately reach the goal of inspiring each other.

“This helps them to build their self-esteem, this is seen in the slogan “I am African & proud,” Mrz Biggz adds.
