Kampala Urban Councilor Mayanja Bruhan Takar is crying foul and fearing for his life following threats from anonymous callers whom he presumes are security operatives.

Speaking to the Investigator in an interview on Monday in Kampala, Mayanja Bruhan Takar aka mpaawo atalikaaba who was arrested last week by police for unlawful procession however said, the ‘war’ is far from over.

Bruhan is the councilor for Nakivubo Shauriyako Parish in Kampala Central Division Urban Council under the NRM ticket.

The video of his arrest by police around Pioneer Mall in Kampala dressed in the famous US orange prison wear went viral.

He was arrested as he marched to Parliament on September 26 2017 to protest the tabling of the motion by move by Igara West MP Raphael Magezi seeking leave to have article 102 (b) (presidential age limited amended.

The motion already moved and has been gazetted and comes for first reading on the floor of Parliament this Thursday October 5th.

But speaking tough, Bruhan said soon after his arrest, he got several anonymous calls from people he believes are security operatives warning him to ‘back’ off his anti 102 (b) amendment.

“I need to inform police and government that intimidation on me and other will not deter us from pushing our agenda of restricting the lifting of the presidential term limit,” he said.

“On Thursday as the motion comes for the first reading on the floor of parliament, we are not sited. We are planning new tricks and riots within town. Watch out,” he said.

Police Spokesman AIG Asan Kasingye has however reechoed his earlier warnings that nobody whether pro or anti the age limit debate will be allowed to hold processions in town.

Similarly, the 13 arrested MPs whose bond were cancelled by police for failing to report at CIID headquarters in Kibuli have vowed not to rest until their agenda is finalized.

Former FDC president and Presidential contender has also announced new plans or boycott, by requesting the elite to park their vehicles at home and use public means (boda boda or taxi) as a new means of protest.

In October 2002, Emirates became the first airline to link Japan and the Gulf region with non-stop flights when it introduced its four-times-per-week service to Osaka. Now serving three points in Japan daily, Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, has carried over 3.9 million passengers* in 15 years of service to Japan. The number of passengers carried in Emirates’ first year of operations–roughly 66,000 in 2002—has grown to nearly 530,000 passengers carried between Dubai and Tokyo (Narita and Haneda) and Osaka in 2016. This achievement is the result of Emirates’ commitment to providing the Japanese market with convenient and innovative products and tailor-made services.

Emirates marks 15 years in Japan

Adapting to demand in terms of both quality and volume, Emirates continues to improve passenger experience in Japan. The opening of the dedicated Emirates Lounge at Narita (Tokyo) in 2015, and the introduction of the A380 to Narita in 2017, which increased capacity per flight by more than 135 passengers per flight, are most notable. Emirates’ flights from Japan depart at night, allowing passengers to have a full day in Japan prior to their journey.

Uniquely on routes to and from Japan, Emirates offers special Japanese cuisine, including the Kaiseki course meal and the premier selection of Sushi in First Class as well as a specially arranged Bento box and Sushi platter in Business Class, along with Japanese sake available in all classes.

Emirates SkyCargo has also played an important role in connecting Japan to the world, carrying more than 60,000 tons of cargo between Dubai and Japan between April 2014 and March 2017. Currently, major cargo imports include time-sensitive items such as cut flowers and salmon, as well as textiles. Major exports include high-tech items such as auto parts, machinery and electrical goods. Top export destinations include Dubai, Johannesburg, Barcelona, Bahrain and St. Petersburg.

Emirates’ services have contributed to Japan’s continued growth as a tourist destination. The number of inbound visitors increased by roughly 18% year-on-year as of August 2017 (source: JNTO). An upcoming attraction for tourists to Japan will be the Rugby World Cup 2019, one of the largest sporting events in the world for which Emirates serves as an Official Worldwide Partner. Emirates’ destinations in Japan remain popular with visitors from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, in particular cities such as London, Barcelona, Casablanca, and Rome.

Emirates reintroduced its A380 to Narita on 26 March 2017

Commenting on the milestone, Badr Abbas, Emirates’ Senior Vice President – Commercial Operations Far East, said: “Over the years, we have achieved healthy growth in our Japanese flights, as more and more customers experience Emirates’ award-winning service and our hub, Dubai. We are committed to the Japanese market and are confident that the demand in terms of both passengers and cargo will remain strong. At Emirates, we continue to innovate in providing a world-class service for business and leisure travel between Japan, Dubai and our global network. We look forward to continue supporting Japan’s growing inbound tourist numbers.”

Passengers on flights to and from Japan enjoy the hospitality of Emirates’ multi-national Cabin Crew, of which more than 350 are from Japan, and the award-winning ice entertainment system, with more than 2,500 channels, including Japanese content, named the World’s Best Inflight Entertainment Award at Skytrax World Airline Awards 2017 for 13 consecutive years.

Emirates passengers also benefit from a generous baggage allowance of up to 35kg in Economy Class, 40kg in Business Class and 50 kg in First Class. Passengers travelling in premium cabins enjoy lounge access around the world, including the dedicated Emirates Lounge at Narita, while Emirates Skywards members and their guests travelling on Emirates may enjoy lounges in Dubai International Airport on a pay-per-visit basis. Premium class passengers are provided with Emirates’ Chauffeur-drive service, available in Japan at Haneda Airport. All travel with Emirates earns passengers Skywards Miles on the airline’s popular frequent flyer programme.

I could tell there was business going on in the corner & everyone looked like they had something to tell this young man. So after my drink i was about to walk out & Miles says….”Aleku first come”

War erupts in paint companies

All is not well at Regal Paints Uganda as most workers have quit following the uncertainty surrounding the Sadolin-Regal Paints merger that was announced recently.

Sources close to the management have informed us that ever since word started going around that Sadolin was re-entering the market and using Regal Paints as a temporary partner while they set up here, the Sales staff have been uncomfortable with the arrangement and have been interviewing for jobs at the competitor paint companies including Plascon, Peacock and Dura Coat.

“The issue is that management is asking their sales and field staff to sell both Regal Paints and Sadolin Paints, which the sales people are finding hard. Many Distributors are unsure of the quality of the new Sadolin Paint Vs the old one now known as Plascon and they have been unwilling to stock it like before.” said our source who preferred anonymity.

In early August, Plascon bought out the Sadolin operations in Uganda, which means they maintained the quality paint that Ugandans were used to, took over their Namanve manufacturing plant and also maintained the staff and distribution networks still giving them a 60% market share of the paint market.

Beyond the sales men, Regal Paints which is in a marriage of convenience with the new Sadolin, is worried that the same issues that forced the former Sadolin paints here to shop around for a new partner Plascon might seep into their marital bed as well.

It emerged that Arkzo Nobel was threatening Sadolin to increase license fee from 5% to 10%, forcing the former to separate from the alliance and sign a deal with Kansai Plascon.

With sales men now scared to touch and sell Sadolin and Regal Paints, the Paint wars might have just come to an end even before they started.
