‘Me and Bobi Wine couldn’t afford breakfast 14 years ago’– Barbie Kyagulanyi

Ghetto singer Bobi Wine’s wife Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi aka Barbie has revealed a touching story about her life with Bobi Wine. The Ghetto first lady said at one time, they were too broke to afford breakfast 14 years ago and Barbie who comes from a well to do family chose not to cry to her relatives. Barbie revealed the touching on Facebook wall today and it is a below;

Barbie and Bobi at one time had no single coin in their pockets

Barbie and Bobi at one time had no single coin in their pockets

Barbie Kyagulanyi; Looking at the scorching sun this morning reminds me of the drought in my husband’s pocket 14 years ago. One February, we were too broke to afford breakfast or even taxi fares from Kanyanya to Kamwokya. To get a meal, we had to open up an account of sorts at a restaurant in Kamwokya.

The owner is such a good mutooro man. He let us eat any day anytime and my husband paid after several weeks whenever he got money. We walked from our muzigo in Kanyanya through Bahai temple to Kyebando and down to Kamwokya every day. I am from a well to do family but I chose not to cry to my relatives.

During this time me and my husband had dreams and aspirations. He dreams big you know. As we walked through the dust and jumped those dirty myala everyday, we talked. In fact we always found ourselves in Kamwokya somehow. He told me of how he was going to be rich. How his music would never disappear from the surface of this earth. He told me that he would build an empire and his name would never be forgotten. The story is long. I later realised that such times were meant to prepare us for a later stage when we had a lot to eat and a car to drive.

The couple can now afford a luxury life

The couple can now afford a luxury life

See, when you are waiting on God to take you to another level, you have to learn to be content. Content with what you are/have at the moment. God is letting you go through such times to prepare you for when you reach that goal you are working so hard to achieve.

You know, if you have not gone through the training of being happy and content with little, you will never be happy with a lot. Even if you achieve your dreams, you will be excited for a short while and then your spirit will start yearning for something bigger. Be happy with the little you have as you dream big. Be patient in times of drought so that when it rains you will appreciate it more.

Barbie said they had no single coin at one time

Barbie said they had no single coin at one time

Me and my husband have learnt to appreciate each season. We are happy when we have a lot and when things seem to be tough. We have the ability to truly enjoy the hard times because we know we are being prepared for when things are better.

Don’t sit and feel sorry for yourself whenever things are difficult. As you put your trust and energy in a better tomorrow don’t forget that the challenges you are facing today will be your fall back strength in future. Happy new month everyone. Pray, believe, trust and BE PATIENT.

UN to build the resilience of communities in Karamoja

FAO, UNICEF and WFP launch joint resilience strategy to improve well-being of Karamojong

Three United Nations agencies in Uganda are implementing a new multi-year resilience strategy to help transform the lives of vulnerable people in the Karamoja region of North Eastern Uganda. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) are combining their efforts to empower households and communities and to strengthen government capacities.

Together, they will work to enable the people of Karamoja to recover, reorganize themselves and move forward after experiencing external stresses and disturbances, including droughts or floods.

UN agencies want to develop communities in Karamoja

The Joint Resilience Strategy for Karamoja Region will focus on four areas: diversifying livelihood strategies and intensifying production in order to increase household income and improve food security; improving basic social services to strengthen vulnerable households’ human capital; establishing predictable safety nets; and strengthening disaster risk management support.

The FAO Country Representative, Mr. Alhaji Jallow, said, “This is an extremely significant development. It is a commitment to collaboration, efficiency and demonstration of results in Karamoja.” Working collectively, he said, the agencies will multiply the impact of their work, reduce transaction costs for communities and the government, and allow individual organizations to more powerfully use their experience in strengthening service delivery systems. Karamoja is vulnerable to multiple stresses and shocks, including climatic, economic, conflict and health-related challenges.

According to the regional Resilience Analysis Unit, the main shocks and stresses for Karamoja include erratic and uneven rainfall, livestock disease outbreaks, crop pests, high food prices, food insecurity, livestock losses, inadequate access to education and health services, and inadequate access to water and sanitation.

The Country Representative of UNICEF, Ms. Aida Girma, said, “This collaboration will strengthen basic services for children and women that will increase their resilience to shocks and help to keep them alive, healthy, in school and protected.” She also said that building household resilience cannot be sustained unless the overall system to deliver the services is strengthened.

The acting WFP Country Director, Mr Michael Dunford, said, “While Karamoja continues to face significant socio-economic challenges, partly due to climate change, opportunities for development have never been more ripe. With increased security, reduced poverty levels and a renewed commitment by the government, partners can achieve more through enhanced collaboration.” Each of the three agencies has more than 20 years’ experience working with communities in Karamoja. Together, they represent 90 percent of the United Nations’ activities in the region.

“In Uganda, 282 children and 16 mothers DIE EVERY DAY due to avoidable birth-related causes. They died yesterday, they have or will be dead by the end of today and the same will happen tomorrow until there is a #CHANGE. It has been like that for the longest time. To all my fellow artists doing campaigns, your voice is very strong in this nation and that’s why you get paid by politicians to sing their praises, please use the same voices to create awareness about the plight of common Ugandans. No one is going to represent your people if you don’t. You now have the leaders’ audience,TELL THEM THE TRUTH!,” Bobi Wine posted.
